Frequently asked questions
What is an ETF?
An exchange traded fund holds a basket of securities, often tracking an index or gold, and trades on the stock exchange like a share.
How is ETF return calculated?
Total return = (sale value − purchase cost + income received) ÷ purchase cost. The annualised figure spreads the return over the holding period.
Is the expense ratio included?
Yes, indirectly. The ETF's expense ratio is already reflected in its market price. Brokerage and taxes are not included.
