Frequently asked questions
How is the average stock price calculated?
Multiply the shares you already hold by their average price, add the shares you are buying multiplied by the new price, and divide the total by your new number of shares.
What is averaging down?
Averaging down means buying more of a stock after its price has fallen, which lowers your average buy price. It also increases your exposure to that stock, so it adds risk if the price keeps falling.
Does the average include brokerage and taxes?
No. Like the average shown in your holdings, this calculator uses share prices only. See our tariff for brokerage and other charges.
Does selling shares change my average price?
No. Selling part of a holding does not change the average buy price of the shares you keep; it only reduces the quantity.
